Children's Library Assistant
Time Commitment
2-4 hours per week, minimum 3 month commitment
Purpose
To assist the Children?s Department in providing quality customer service for younger patrons.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists the children?s librarian
- Assists in the development and implementation of children?s reading, crafts and story time programs
- Coordinates displays for the Children?s Room display cases
- Responds to public inquiries and reference questions
- Produces library promotional materials
- Enforces library rules
- Works the circulation counter as needed
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- Willingness to learn and use the library?s automation system
- Must have excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills, including the ability to give coherent directions
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communicate effectively, patiently, and
courteously with young patrons, their parents,
and otherlibrary staff members - Ability to handle multiple activities and interruptions, at once
- Must like children, and be comfortable working with them individually or in a group setting
