Circulation Desk Volunteer
Time Commitment
2-4 hours per shift, weekly
Purpose
To serve customer needs at the circulation desk and assist staff with circulation duties.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Processes check-ins, check-outs, and renewals
- Issues new library cards
- Answers and transfers telephone calls
- Collects fines and fees)
- Shelves returned materials
- Performs shelf reading and maitenance
- Responds to patrons requests
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- Speak English well
- 18 years of age or older
- Is honest, reliable, punctual, and patient
- Has good communication, listening, and organizational skills
- Enjoys working with the public
- Ability to learn and use computer programs
- Ability to access, input, and retrieve information
- Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
- Demonstrate good attention to detail
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Shelving knowledge a plus
- General familiarity with libraries
- Ability to lift and carry stacks of books (generally around 5 pounds)
