Time Commitment

2-4 hours, weekly, 6 month commitment

Purpose

Responsible for accurately shelving library materials in a variety of formats and subject areas, plus performing general support work for the library staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Stamps daily date due cards for all circulating materials
  • Puts carts in order
  • Shelves materials
  • Edges and dusts shelves
  • Keep assigned genre areas in shelf order
  • Sets up meeting room and other duties as assigned
  • May do photocopying or computer assignments

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Ability to convey a positive, friendly attitude
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
  • Must be 14 years of age or older
  • Must follow directions well
  • Ability to concentrate and pay attention to details
  • Ability to push book carts that weigh 100 plus pounds
  • Bending required
  • Shelving knowledge (Dewey) is a plus
  • Once trained, must be able to work independently
