Time Commitment

2-4 hours, weekly, 3 month commitment


To assist the library staff with the clerical functions of the library.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works with book orders
  • Alphabetizes and files
  • Types documents for director and staff
  • Types spine labels, replaces worn labels
  • Adds records to the library catalog (will train)
  • Assists in processing withdrawn material
  • Photocopies, types, files and does other clerical tasks as needed

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Speak English well
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to sort and organize materials in alphabetical
    and/or Dewey decimal order (will train)
  • Has good communication, listening, and organizational Skills
  • Types and/or has good computer skills
  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteer
  • General familiarity with libraries a plus
  • Ability to read a minimum print size equal to elite type
  • Knowledge of library automation a plus
  • Familiarity with office equipment
