Youth Services Volunteer

Time Commitment

2 hours, weekly, minimum 6 month commitment

Purpose

To meet the growing demand for quality programming, this volunteer will be trained to assist the library staff in planning and presenting programs for children of all ages.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • May include locating and pulling materials for programs and displays
  • Assists with preparation of craft materials (copying, cutting, etc.) and with crafts during programming
  • Does set up, crowd control, take down and clean up
  • May include assisting staff in planning and performing story times
  • Once trained and vetted may be asked to perform their own story times

Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required

  • Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons, and other volunteers
  • Upbeat friendly demeanor
  • Enjoy working with children and parents
  • Familiarity with children's literature
  • Comfortable with public speaking and singing, particularly in front of young children
  • Minimum age of 18
  • Good communication skills
