Coordinator of Afterschool Programs
Time Commitment
2-5 hours, weekly, Academic year commitment

Develop, organize and manage afterschool programming that will attract and engage youth at the library.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and lead a creative team to supervise a robust afterschool program
- Oversee volunteer activities
- Design and implement volunteer schedules
- Select volunteers for each available position
- Provide volunteer orientation and training
- Organize volunteer recognition and appreciation activities
- Orient volunteers to increase their understanding of the library, its patrons, its services and the role and responsibilities of volunteers
- Implement an interview process for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualifications, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the library's children's programming
- In conjunction with the library director and/or children's librarian, establish the ground rules for this programming
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- High degree of initiative and creativity
- Desire to work with active, energetic youth
- Knowledge and experience in working with youth groups and/or teaching
- Ability to develop and work with a team
- Community connections a plus
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to create a plan and strategies for volunteer recruitment and retention
- Excellent oral communication and written skills
- Work cooperatively and with enthusiasm to support collaboration, inspire volunteer involvement and reduce attrition
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to set goals and be accountable for completing each assigned task
- Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons and other volunteers
- Ability to receive instructions from library staff, and the cooperation to abide by library policies and regulations
- Ability to organize projects and work
