Book Discussion Leader (Father/Son or Mother/Daughter)
Time Commitment
3-4 hours, monthly, one year commitment
Purpose
With the assistance of the Children's Librarian, develop a plan for promoting, implementing and facilitating a monthly book discussion for fathers and sons and/or mothers and daughters.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Suggest reading choices
- Develop a plan for promoting, implementing and facilitating a book group
- Help participants develop guidelines for choosing books
- Coordinate dates and times with library schedule
- Work with the library staff to advertise programs
- Ability to research authors
- Create discussion questions
- Keep the Children's Librarian aware of progress
Skills/Abilities/Qualifications Required
- Knowledge of children's literature
- Experience working with children and adults
- Ability to speak and understand English, and to convey a positive, friendly attitude
- Ability to work congenially with staff, patrons and other volunteers
- Ability to provide dependable transportation, so as to be punctual, and the ability to be contacted by telephone for scheduling changes and meetings
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of popular titles, authors and genres
- General familiarity with libraries
- Must feel comfortable guiding and facilitating groups
