Served 3 years in Germany to keep the peace.
A friend who went through so much and still keeps a smile.
I am honoring my husband, Jeffery A. Coffin, who participated in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 12/3/90 - 5/2/91. He was a specialist with C Company of the 9th Engineering Battalion of the US Army, originally stationed in Germany. They went into battle with the 1st Infantry Division, who were the first into Iraq. At the end of the tour, they returned to Germany and not to Bangor International Airport. We were both 19 at the time.
Jason is a United States Marine that left for Iraq in February 2004, and returned to California on June 24, 2004. Though his time was short in Iraq he was missed very much. While he was gone he supported me financially. This man kept a brave face and not one tear fell from his eyes as we spent our last night together. He was calm and collected even though he was scared. He was a rock to lean on even when he faced certain danger. I am so proud of him for all he has done for me and his country. I know I can never repay him for what he has done but this is just a thank you.
My father enlisted in the Army in 1917 and was trained in chemical warfare. According to his medals he fought 5 battles in France as part of the original "Hellfire Boys". The First Gas Regiment. He was injured by German Mustard gas in March of 1918 and in 2003 he was awarded his purple heart. As the war came to and end and he returned home to Rockland, jobs were scarce. My father went back and enlisted and served 2 more years in the Navy. My father Went to meet God after many years of suffering with just one lung. The Mustard Gas got the other one.
My Father served honorably in England in the 67th General Hospital unit, which was from Maine, often operating for days on end.
A tribute to my father, my hero who served 2 tours in Vietnam and received a medal of honor and the purple heart.
Although this day November 17, 2004 is my first day without you physically, hardens my heart. May your hunting, military stories and words of wisdom forever hold my heart. I love you Gramps and I will miss you.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice. We love and miss you.
