New logo and web page aim to modernize look, ensure accessibility
AUGUSTA, MAINE – Secretary of State Shenna Bellows and the Maine Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (MePCSW) today unveiled a new logo for the MePCSW.
In addition to the new logo, which was created by graphic designer Sarah McCullough of Portland, the MePCSW page within the Secretary of State’s website was updated to improve both usability and accessibility. The page has been updated to make reports, information, learning opportunities, and meetings easier to find.
“The Maine Permanent Commission on the Status of Women plays a key role in guiding state government on policies and social issues that impact and are important to Maine women and girls,” said Secretary of State Shenna Bellows. “This new logo and the refreshed page reaffirms the commission has its sights set on the future and ensures the vital work of the commission is readily available and easy to access.”
The MePCSW is a government-appointed group dedicated to improving opportunities for women and girls in Maine. The commission’s most recent report focused on Maine women’s employment, unpaid labor, and economic security, highlighting issues like the persistent gender pay gap and the need for affordable, high-quality child care. The Commission administration has been housed within the Secretary of State’s Office since 2009.
“The Maine Permanent Commission on the Status of Women is committed to advancing the wellbeing of Maine women and girls,” said Elinor Higgins, executive director for the MePCSW. “We are thrilled to share these updates to our logo and webpage, and we will continue to look for ways to make our materials more accessible for lawmakers and the public.”
The MePCSW is comprised of 19 commission members representing a variety of fields, backgrounds, and state geographies. Per statute, nine commission members are appointed by the Governor, five by the President of the Senate and five by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
