MPREHIST: Maine Prehistoric Archaeological Reports on file

Archaeology Report Indices

Several thousand unpublished archaeology reports are curated at the Commission.  Access to these is limited to approved archaeologists and others conducting research as permitted under 27MRSA s377.  Access is through MHPC staff; there is no internet access to these reports.  Two text-searchable indices are available: one for prehistoric archaeology reports and one for historic archaeology reports.

Prehistoric site reports can be accessed in three different ways:  alphabetically by last name of first author, secondarily by topographic map quadrangle number; quadrangle number and secondarily by first author’s last name; and by site number.  All references or reports that make substantive reference to a specific site should be listed for the given site number.

The historic archaeological report index is an index of historic archaeological surveys conducted in Maine.  The index is arranged alphabetically by town.
