The Rangeley Lakes Country Club Historic District in Rangeley, Maine is locally significant under the National Register of Historic Places Criterion A, in the area of entertainment/recreation. The district attains significance for its association with the development of tourism in Rangeley, one of Maine's most popular sporting and recreation destinations from the mid-19th century to the present. For nearly a century, the golf course and motel complex have been serving guests who come to the Rangeley region to enjoy a variety of recreational activities. The area gained prominence as a hunting and fishing destination in the mid-19th century and has since expanded its visitor amenities and accommodations to become one of the states premier vacation destinations. This small district of three town lots has a period of significance from 1924, when the earliest portion of the golf course was constructed, to 1973, the fifty-year cutoff date for the National Register. The proposed National Register boundaries include the two lots that hold the motel complex and that portion of the golf course property that holds the course itself.
