Serving as a general store from its construction until the 1930s, Elden's Store is a rare example of a commercial brick building in a rural area from the early nineteenth century. The building is two-stories high with a side-gable roof. The brick is laid in English bond, a pattern of alternating the long and short sides of the brick. The gable ends are clapboard sided. The windows have multiple small panes and granite sills and lintels. The building sits on the corner of Long Plains Road and Haines Meadow Road and has two street facing sides. The southeast elevation is nearly symmetrical with a single, central entry door. The northwest elevation contains multiple entrances and the windows in the gable end do not line up with the lower story windows. In rural areas, the general store served not only as place to buy, trade, or barter a variety of goods, but also as a gathering space for residents to discuss news and politics. The Buxton store was also home to Samuel D. Hanson's coat business, the area's most prosperous business that employed over 1,200 women at its peak. Today it serves as the Town of Buxton's Emergency Management Agency offices.
