Daniel Marrett House, 1789 - Standish, Cumberland County

Located in the center of Standish Corner, the Daniel Marrett House is an example of a Federal period building with later Greek Revival-style elements. It is two stories tall, sheathed in clapboards with a side gabled roof and large center chimney. The facade is symmetrical with a central entry located in a projecting vestibule. The entry door is flanked by Tuscan pilasters that support the front gabled roof of the projection. The building corners also feature pilasters. The trim and pilasters are Greek Revival in style and were added later. The pitch of the roof was also changed to conform to the later style. A two-story ell extends off the rear and connects to a large barn. The house was built by Benjamin Titcomb and Daniel Marrett purchased it in 1796 when he was ordained pastor of the Standish meeting house. The property remained in the Marrett family until 1944 when it was donated to Historic New England. The house is open seasonally for tours and is also part of the Standish Corner Historic District.
