Maine Department of Labor: Maine Jobs and Recovery Plan (MJRP) Listening Sessions

During late September and early October, the Maine Department of Labor and State Workforce Board conducted a total of seven listening sessions with more than 200 participants—representing statewide partners, local area workforce boards, employers, union representatives, services providers and community-based organizations.

The discussion centered around how the workforce system can capitalize on the Maine Jobs and Recovery and ARPA funding opportunities to work more collaboratively, innovatively and sustainably to advance the goals of increasing the talent pool, credential attainment, and wages. Key themes that will inform our program design & implementation include:

  • Creating a more easy to navigate & accessible workforce system for priority communities
  • Engaging employers to invest in worker training, cultural competency, flexibility, and enhanced benefits & increased wages
  • Expanding access to career pathways via increased awareness, multiple on-ramps, and wraparound supports
