Visiting Maine

If you are planning to arrive early or stay after the meeting Maine is a wonderful place to explore. In May, you'll be ahead of tourist season but still be able to enjoy warmer weather. Freeport is an outlet shopping mecca with the iconic flagship L.L. Bean store a few blocks from the meeting location. Portland is a vibrant, trendy, multicultural city with some amazing restaurants and the beautiful Casco Bay at the door step. Endless adventures in the western Maine mountains or along 3500 miles of coastline also await. To see some of our amazing geology, the Maine Geological Survey has curated over 250 geologic localities across the state. Most are easy walks or short hikes that will get you off the beaten path for an hour or two. With under 50 people per square mile it won't be hard to enjoy your own small adventure. Or if you enjoy a happening, local spot you are in luck. Maine has the most brew pubs per capita of any state in the country. And don't forget about Acadia National Park which is always one of the top 5 most visited parks in the country, for good reason.
