Job Title: Cataloging and Special Collections Librarian
Reports to: Library Director
Classification: Part Time (18-20 hours a week)

The Cataloging and Special Collections Librarian is responsible for collecting, organizing, and preserving archival materials as well as creating and maintaining original and adaptive Minerva/MaineCat compatible bibliographic and item records. This position is additionally responsible for collection maintenance including assessment and selection of new materials, physical repairs, and weeding.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Selection and assessment of new materials.
  • Receiving and processing of a variety of materials to shelf readiness.
  • Performing complex and specialized copy cataloging for a variety of formats.
  • Understanding cataloging concepts and conventions, MARC, RDA, AACR2, and Dewey Decimal classification.
  • Assisting with special projects to enhance access to materials.
  • Ensuring a high quality of bibliographic- and item-record accuracy.
  • Establishing relationships with individuals and community organizations interested in donating archival materials to the Library.
  • Repair of physical materials.
  • Collecting, preserving, and making available the Library's archival collection to the public.
  • Training and supervising interns, volunteers, and staff in preservation of archival materials.
  • Digitizing and maintaining digital access to archival collections.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree
  • 2-3 years of working experience cataloging or comparable work with complex databases.
  • Knowledge of/interest in bibliographic MARC records and metadata.
  • Demonstrated technology skills and the ability to learn and adapt to new technology needs.
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel skills, including formulas and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with organization, description, and cataloging of archival materials.
  • Familiarity with current archival digital standards.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Exhibits initiative, independence, and persistence in learning. Ability to maintain flexibility in changing routine and to organize multiple assignments. Strong work ethic and service orientation.

Salary: $22/hour
