Maine State Library Hosts Discussion on Revolutionary War Genealogy Resources

Augusta - Many Mainers can trace parts of their ancestry back to the time of the Revolutionary War, or even earlier. Thanks to a variety of genealogical resources, you can find out if your family played a role in the war that defined the birth of our nation.

On Thursday, May 22 from 10:00 AM to noon, the Maine State Library Genealogy Club will host Ann Thomas, Honorary State Regent and Past Vice President General of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR,) for a discussion on Revolutionary War genealogy.

The free event will be held at the Maine State Library in Augusta and is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Thomas will discuss the history and mission of the DAR and genealogy resources available for people tracing their family history. Membership in the DAR is open to any women eighteen years of age or older who can prove lineal, blood line descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. The process includes documentation of each statement of birth, marriage, and death. The Maine State Library Genealogy Club promotes interest in genealogy, celebrates ancestral history and works to share best practice strategies for family research. The group meets monthly at the Maine State Library and is always welcoming new members.

The Maine State Library is home to the largest genealogy collection in the state as well as town histories and published vital records for towns in Maine and a good deal of New England, materials on the Maritime Provinces of Canada, and genealogy reference materials.
