AUGUSTA - A bill to increase the notice period that a landlord must provide a tenant before significantly increasing their rent is now law. The measure is sponsored by Rep. Chris Kessler, D-South Portland.

AUGUSTA - Last Friday, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law legislation sponsored by Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, that will study the expansion of the state's health care workforce by looking at ways to integrate physicians trained outside of Maine into the health care system.

AUGUSTA - Legislation sponsored by Rep. Art Bell, D-Yarmouth, that will phase out the use of fluorescent light bulbs in Maine over the next several years, is now law.

As amended, LD 1814 will prohibit the sale or distribution of mercury-added light bulbs beginning on Jan. 1, 2026.

AUGUSTA - Last week, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law legislation sponsored by Rep. Anne-Marie Mastraccio, D-Sanford, that will modernize Maine's dental care workforce by amending the scope of practice for dental hygienists and dental therapists.

AUGUSTA - On Wednesday, Gov. Janet Mills signed a bill from Rep. Chris Kessler, D-South Portland, to limit the fees that a landlord can charge a prospective tenant as part of a rental application.

AUGUSTA - Last week, Gov. Janet Mills signed into law legislation sponsored by Rep. Anne Graham, D-North Yarmouth, that will allow certified nurse practitioners to provide in-home care without a home health care provider license. Currently, licensed nurse practitioners are prohibited from providing in-home care to patients unless they are employed by a managed care organization like a home health agency.

AUGUSTA - Last week, Gov. Janet Mills signed legislation sponsored by Rep. Gerry Runte, D-York, that will modernize Maine's electric grid for the 21st century.
