Kittery holding Independence Day and 375th Anniversary Celebration

AUGUSTA - The town of Kittery will be holding an event to celebrate its 375th birthday as well as Independence Day on Saturday, June 25 at 9 AM. The celebration will include a reenactment of General William Whipple reading from the Declaration of Independence, the Piscataqua Rangers Jr. Fife and Drum Corps, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Color Guard and revolution-era reenactors from Captain Henry Dearborn's Company. Governor Janet Mills will also be in attendance.

Legislature honors long-term care facilities and workers

AUGUSTA - The Maine Legislature passed a joint resolution Wednesday recognizing the exceptional efforts of long-term care facilities and workers. The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, honors the dedication of workers in long-term care facilities to provide quality care for older individuals and individuals with disabilities during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Governor signs Mathieson bill to update water district charter

AUGUSTA - A bill sponsored by Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, to repeal and replace the charter of the Kittery Water District was ceremonially signed into law by Gov. Janet Mills Monday. The bill passed unanimously in both chambers of the Legislature.

LD 1542 expands the district's corporate limits to include all of Kittery, Kittery Point, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard and portions of Eliot and York, allowing residents of those areas to serve on the board and vote for board members.

House passes resolution recognizing Maine's housing crisis

AUGUSTA - The Maine House of Representatives voted on Wednesday to pass a bipartisan joint resolution recognizing the struggle of Maine residents with housing costs and the inadequacy of Maine's housing stock. The resolution, sponsored Rep. Kristen Cloutier, D-Lewiston, states that Maines shortage of affordable housing has a direct impact on the health and welfare of Maine people.

Mathieson bill to increase access to breast cancer screenings goes into effect

AUGUSTA - A new law sponsored by Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, that removes financial barriers to diagnostic and supplemental breast examinations by eliminating cost-sharing requirements, is now in effect.

The law went into effect on Oct. 25, 90 days following the end of the legislative session, which is standard for non-emergency legislation.

Rep. Kristi Mathieson, D-Kittery, was joined at the State House on Tuesday by constituent and former state representative, Deane Rykerson, who performed the national anthem on the cello prior to the opening of the legislative session.
