Boards & Commissions
Welcome to the Governor's Office Department of Boards and Commissions.
This department is responsible for the oversight of Governor LePage's appointments to boards and commissions throughout our state. The Governor appoints over two thousand Maine citizens to serve on over three hundred boards and commissions. These boards involve nearly every aspect of Maine life.
Appointments vary in length such that there are always opportunities for Maine people to become involved in the appointments process. Governor LePage is committed to appointing people of the highest quality who represent the best interests of the people of Maine.
Governor LePage encourages public input and interest in these appointments. If you are interested in serving on a board or commission, or know someone who is, please contact our office. We look forward to working with you.
Throughout this site, you will find information on the appointment process, policies, and announced appointments.

There are two basic types of appointments to boards and commissions: Personal and Confirmable. The statute enabling the board or commission provides the context for these categorizations.
Confirmable appointments require a public hearing to be held before a joint standing committee of the State Legislature for the purposes of confirming the Governor's nomination. These appointments also require final Confirmation by the Maine State Senate. View a complete list of these appointments and boards.
Personal appointments do not require a public hearing or approval of the State Legislature. View a complete listing of these appointments.
