For Corrections Officers

In-Service Training Requirements For All Corrections Officers

The following forms are available for download in either PDF or Microsoft Word or Power Point format. You will need the free Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print them. Microsoft Word format requires either Microsoft Word or the free Microsoft Word Reader. Microsoft PowerPoint format requires either Microsoft PowerPoint or the free PowerPoint Viewer.

In 2015, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

1. Mechanics of Effective Restraint & Control - Module 1

2. Mechanics of Effective Restraint & Control - Module 5

3. One (1) elective topic of choice- each facility will choose one (1) topic area of need.  The topic cannot be required by OSHA, Department of Labor          or by Detention and Correctional Standards for the County Jails.

4. New Law Updates: Material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office.

In 2016, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

1. New Law Updates: Material to be provided by the Attorney General's Office and also a refresher on any guidelines regarding case law around 

    religious awareness.

2. Mechanics of Effective Restraint & Control - Module 2

3. Mechanics of Effective Restraint & Control - Module 4

4. One (1) elective topic of choice - each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them.  The topic cannot be topics required by OSHA,

    Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails.

In 2017, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

1. New Law Updates: Material provided by the Attorney General's Office to include case review on relevant case material if there are no new laws.

2. Mechanics of Effective Restraint & Control - Module 3

3. Transgender Inmates

4. One (1) elective topic of choice - each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them.  The topic cannot be topics required by OSHA,           Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails. 

In 2018, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

1. New Law Updates: Material provided by the Attorney General's Office.

2. Wellness/Stress Management

3. Drug Related Officer Safety

4. Mental Health 

5. One (1) elective topic of choice – each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them. The topic cannot be topics required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails 

In 2019, all Correctional Officers will complete training in:

1. New Law Updates: Material to be provided by the Attorney General’s Office; if no new laws then a relevant case review

2. Security in a Non-Secure Setting

3. One (1) elective topic on Communication – each facility may choose the lesson plan and topic in this area that best fits their organizational needs.

4. One (1) elective topic of choice – each facility will choose one (1) topic in area of need for them. The topic cannot be topics required by OSHA, Department of Labor or by Detention and Correctional Standards for County Jails.
