Juvenile Services
The Maine Department of Corrections Juvenile Division is committed to the result that all Maine youth successfully transition into adulthood. The Juvenile Division’s contribution to this result is to ensure that all justice involved youth experience a fair, equitable, and responsive juvenile justice system that provides them with positive outcomes. The Juvenile Division is committed to reducing the use of institutional secure confinement by increasing the capacity and use of community-based programming and supports.
Upcoming Meeting: Maine Youth Community Supervision Initiative/LD 740 Working Group Monthly Meetings
In April 2026, the Legislature approved LD 740, Resolve, to Study Methods for Improving Youth Community Supervision and Increasing Juvenile Diversion from Formal Judicial Processing. The resolve requires that DOC establish a task force to study methods for diverting youths safely from formal judicial processing and to recommend improvements to existing community supervision practices. The work of the task force is closely aligned with work currently being done by the Youth Community Supervision Initiative (YCSI) – a collaborative effort of the Maine Department of Corrections, the Maine Center for Juvenile Policy and Law, and the Maine Juvenile Justice Advisory Group. Meetings of the task force/YCSI occur on the third Thursday of each month from 4-5pm. Meetings are open to the public at the Maine Department of Corrections, Tyson Conference Room (3rd Floor), 25 Tyson Drive in Augusta or via zoom at YCSI Monthly Meeting (https://maine.zoom.us/j/84361902812).
