ConnectMaine grants are funded through a one quarter of one percent (0.25%) assessment on all communications, video and internet service bills, and a $0.10 surcharge on all phone numbers, which generate approximately $3 million per year. On July 14, 2020, Maine voters passed the first broadband bond, $15 million. In early 2022, ConnectMaine was awarded a grant from the NTIA to support a $30 million project to connect nearly 15,000 potential subscriber locations. Application windows for grants are opened by vote of the ConnectMaine Authority.
