Quick Exit The Victim Services Unit supports crime victims, survivors, and system-based advocates statewide through several programs and initiatives. The Maine Crime Victims' Compensation Program provides reimbursement for uninsured financial losses suffered by victims of violent crime and their families, such as medical and mental health counseling expenses, funeral expenses, and lost wages. The Victims' Compensation Program also administers the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination (SAFE) reimbursement program. The Victim Witness Advocate Coordinator Program provides training, technical assistance, and policy implementation for victim witness advocates, prosecutors, and other allied professionals to help improve the quality of victim services statewide.
If you are the victim of a violent crime or a family member of a homicide victim, our Victim Advocates can help. They can:
- Provide you with information relating to the Maine Victims' Compensation Program.
- Provide you with information and support during the investigation, trial and post-trial process.
- Assist you in filing applications with the Department of Corrections so that you are notified of the release of the defendant.
