Internships

Internships for Law Students

The Attorney General's Office offers summer internships for law students going into their second or third year of law school. The internships generally last ten weeks, with two division rotations, depending upon the interests of the interns and the needs of the office. Interns have opportunities to assist with legal research and writing, observe hearings and trials, attend meetings and interviews, and participate in myriad activities in support of the legal mission of the office. We strive to make the internships rewarding experiences for the law students who join us and are enthusiastically told by former participants that we are very successful in that regard.

In 2026, and subject to available funds, the Office anticipates offering a $4,000 stipend to interns.

The Office's Recruitment Committee usually begins interviewing law students in February for the following summer. If you are a student at the University of Maine School of Law, the Office recruits summer candidates through the Law School's Career Services Office. If you are a student at another law school interested in being considered for an internship, please send a letter of interest, resume, unofficial transcript, and three references to:
