Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project to Help Veterans with Benefits Claims at Bangor Public Library

Public libraries in Maine continue to work with the Volunteer Lawyers Project in efforts to connect Maine citizens to free legal services. On Saturday, May 18, 2013, local veterans will be able to get free help with their U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefit applications and appeals at the Bangor Public Library at 145 Harlow Street in Bangor.

Volunteer attorneys who have been accredited by the VA to provide this support will be on hand from 10 am to 2 pm on the 18th to provide free help to veterans applying for VA benefits or appealing a denial. No appointments are necessary. This free clinic has been organized by the Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project with support from Pine Tree Legal Assistance and the Maine VISTA project at the Maine Commission for Community Service.

This is the third legal clinic in Maine public libraries organized for Maine veterans with legal needs since October 2012. The Maine Volunteer Lawyers Project is planning additional clinics in Augusta and Portland later in 2013. Veterans with low incomes who are experiencing other legal needs are encouraged to contact their local Pine Tree office for assistance.
