Public Paper Preservation: Scan Your Documents and Photos at Maine State Library
April 11, 2013
Coordinator of Public Services
Thanks to a generous grant from the Friends of Maine Libraries and the Maine Community Foundation, The Maine State Library is pleased to announce we now have a public scanning lab.
Anyone who has photographs or documents that they wish to preserve digitally can make an appointment to use the equipment. At this time, scanned items can be saved to a flash drive. Eventually color printing and the ability to save items to the internet cloud will also be available.
The lab is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:00 to 5:00 and Wednesdays from 1:00 to 5:00. You may call ahead to reserve time or drop in to see if a scanner is available.
To introduce the equipment and help novices get started, the Library will provide a series of drop-in classes in basic scanning techniques. The first classes are scheduled for Tuesday April 23 & 30 from 9:30 to 11:30 and Thursdays May 2 and 9 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
Please bring items you wish to scan and a flash drive on which to save them. The library does not provide flash drives.
