Skidompha Library is looking for a kind, constructive, and encouraging candidate to lead and manage Skidompha's Children's Services Department.
The Children's Librarian will support a positive work environment and cooperate, collaborate, and work closely and collegially with the Teen and Adult Librarians, and with other staff members as needed, to promote, innovate, and grow the Youth Services Department and Skidompha Library.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for someone interested in working with a group of curious and passionate librarians and patrons and making a meaningful difference in the lives of our patrons and our community. This position reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with other library staff to support all departments.
Responsibilities
The Head of Children's Services performs a wide range of professional tasks, with primary focus on:
- Outreach, program planning and delivery, circulation, reference and readers advisory, collection development and management, and assisting users in the use of a wide range of electronic, print, and media resources.
- Managing Skidompha's Children's Room while promoting a kind, safe, fun, and creative environment
- Successfully integrating into the library's working culture, and working collegially with library staff
- Pursuing grant and funding opportunities, and supporting staff grant efforts as requested, including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
- A master's in library and information sciences and prior library experience as a children's services librarian
- A track record of innovative, creative, and fun programming
- Outgoing with excellent and effective communication and listening skills
- A positive, patient, and empathetic presence with concern for people and community
- Proficiency in budgeting, accounting, and financial planning
- Committed to a diverse work environment where everyone is welcome. Consistently demonstrates sensitivity and skilled communication around matters of equity and diversity.
- Successful grant writing experience
Probationary period
All staff members serve a probationary period of ninety days. During this time both the Library Executive Director and new hire will consider whether this is a good fit for both.
