Falmouth Memorial Library is looking to fill a key role for our lively and growing library, following the retirement of a long-time employee. We are looking for an experienced, collegial, friendly team-player to join our small but mighty crew. We are a busy library, with an excellent collection, a diverse array of family-focused programming, and colleagues who enjoy helping people while keeping up with library trends, programs and services that benefit our community. The Library is a recently renovated and well-loved asset in Falmouth. Join our team to help us maintain a safe, friendly, educational, and entertaining place for our families and friends.
Our Assistant Director has broad collection management responsibilities, takes responsibility for the operation of the library in absence of the Director, supervises several staff positions directly and indirectly, and advises and participates in library operations, management, and planning. As a member of library leadership, the Assistant Director promotes the library in the community, occasionally fills in at service desks, and attends meetings and functions as a representative of the library.
We are seeking someone with significant collection development and cataloging experience, as well as prior general management experience, preferably in a staff supervisory role. The Assistant Director is responsible primarily for adult non-fiction print collections, advises and assists with additional collections library-wide, and is responsible for cataloging for all areas. The successful candidate will work with the Director to ensure consistent operation of the library facility, coordinate building maintenance and repairs with outside contractors, and play a key role in carrying out financial operations in alignment with audited cash controls, in collaboration with the Director, Treasurer, and outside accountant.
This position is full-time, with salary ranging from $72,000-$82,000/year based on skills and experience. Full time benefits include a daily 1-hour paid lunch break, 15 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 2-week vacation (increases to 3 weeks after one year of employment), 100% employer paid health insurance premiums for individuals, and retirement benefits via MEPERS, as well as offering a 401(k) with up to a 4% employer match on employee contributions.
Computer literacy, including working knowledge of PC operating systems, e-readers, tablets, etc. is required. The position requires moving around the library, which includes bending and stretching to shelve items, and lifting materials (up to 25 lbs.). Master's Degree from an ALA accredited program is required; minimum 3 years library experience, in some management capacity (people, things, and/or budgets). Level 2 cataloging permissions in Minerva, or significant progress towards obtaining Level 2 permissions, is required. Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team is required.
