Keywords in this Manual

Keywords provide guidance on what steps to take.

  • When you see a keyword in bold and in brackets, find the key on your keyboard (e.g., press the [Enter] key on your keyboard).
  • When you see a keyword in brackets but not bold, find the button on your screen (e.g., click on the [OK] button). Move your mouse pointer over it and left-click on it once or move to the button on the screen by pressing the [Tab] key until you reach the button you want and then press the [Enter] key on your keyboard.
  • A word or words enclosed in double quotes generally indicates a screen name (e.g., "Data Entry" screen).

Basic Mouse Terms

This manual may provide instructions to "click" or "double-click" on certain buttons, menus, etc. This means to press the left mouse button once or twice respectively. When needed, the terms "right click" or "double-right click" are specified to access desired shortcut menus or screens.

Online Help

Click the [Help] buttons located on various WIN-202 screens to be automatically directed to the corresponding online documentation. If you need help, Appendix A contains a list of contact names and phone numbers.

Performing Word Searches

Some screens allow you to search for a word or set of words within a large amount of text to help you narrow down possible choices. All word searches in the WIN-202 system work the same way. You enter a word or words in the "Enter Search String" fill-in area. You can use a wild-card string (ending in an asterisk) to search for words that begin with specific letters. For example, the string "radi*" matches the words radio, radiator, and radiation. By entering more than one word in the search string, you limit your search to records that contain all the words that you specify. The order of the words is not important and words may be entered in either uppercase or lowercase; the word search is not case sensitive. By clicking on the [Lookup Tables] button on the "Main Menu" screen of the WIN-202 system and then clicking on the NAICS Codes radio button, you may enter a search string to help you select a NAICS code. If you enter more than one word (e.g., computer software), you will see as possible selections, all the NAICS which have computer software either in their titles or in their descriptions.

Security

The WIN-202 system allows users access to the system to perform only those functions for which they are approved to perform (e.g., data entry, update information, edit data, run reports). Permissions are set to determine who can work on different functions. A state agency supervisor sets the level of permissions for each staff person.
