June 11, 2025

The Bureau has published Rule Chapter 300 (rev.), "Collection Agencies: Application and Record Keeping Requirements," for comment. This rule repeals license application and renewal requirements for collection agencies in Chapter 300 superseded by requirements in Bureau Rule Chapter 705, clarifies surety coverage requirements for residential real estate property preservation provider and debt buyer licensees, and repeals the requirement that licensees receive pre-approval of form letters used in communicating with Maine debtors. Additional copies of this proposed rule are available from the Bureau's website at https://www.maine.gov/pfr/consumercredit/laws_rules/proposed.htm.
