Author Don Lord to Discuss Latest Book, The Gentle Revolutionaries, at Maine State Library

Augusta ? The Maine State Library will host Maine author, Don Lord for an author talk on his latest book, The Gentle Revolutionaries, on Friday, August 22 at 6:00 PM. The event is free and open to the public.

The Gentle Revolutionaries is based on the lives of two American missionaries in Siam (Thailand) in the early 19th century and their contributions to improving health and education services in the nation. While in service, the missionaries formed a close friendship with the country?s leader, King Mongkut. Using their diaries and letters, Lord challenges popular beliefs about the monarch and Thai people that grew out of works such as Anna and the King of Siam and the musical The King and I.

Don Lord holds a BA from Oberlin College and a PhD from Western Reserve University. He is a retired professor of history whose publications include Mo Bradley and Thailand, John F. Kennedy, Issues Past and Present, and Dubya: The Toxic Texan. When active, he was listed in Directory of American Scholars, Outstanding Educators, and Community Leaders of America.

The talk is sponsored by the Friends of the Maine State Library, a nonprofit organization that works to enhance access to quality services to Maine residents through statewide library initiatives. For more information, please contact the Maine State Library at 207-287-5600.
