Governor LePage Proclaims December 21, 2018 Chester Greenwood Day

WHEREAS, Chester Greenwood was born in Farmington in 1858; and

WHEREAS, each winter people all over the world enjoy the warmth and comfort offered by earmuffs without realizing that the earmuff was invented by Chester Greenwood in Farmington Maine in the 1870’s; and

WHEREAS, along with the ear protectors, Chester Greenwood also developed over 100 other products including self-priming spark plugs, the spring-tooth steel rake, a conical bearing for automobiles and a fluid shock absorber; and

WHEREAS, Chester Greenwood has been named one of America’s 15 most outstanding inventors by the Smithsonian Institution and is one of Maine’s most famous citizens.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, PAUL R. LEPAGE, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim December 21, 2018 as CHESTER GREENWOOD DAY throughout the State of Maine, and urge all citizens to recognize this observance.
