Municipal and Plantation Consumer Fireworks Ordinances

Under Maine Statute Title 8, §223-A, municipalities that prohibit or restrict the sale or use of consumer fireworks shall provide to the Office of the State Fire Marshal a copy of the relevant restriction or prohibition within 60 days of adoption. The 128th Maine Legislature enacted legislation in 2017 that allows Maine plantations to adopt consumer fireworks ordinances: plantation law (PDF, 1 page, 217 KB). The list below contains the consumer fireworks ordinances currently on file with the Office of State Fire Marshal. Please check with a municipalities' or plantation's main office before using fireworks in a municipality or plantation that isn't on the list below, because some municipalities and plantations have not forwarded their consumer fireworks ordinances to our office. If a municipality or plantation has not adopted a consumer fireworks ordinance to prohibit or restrict the sale of consumer fireworks, then state law would apply. Select this link to access state guidelines for use of consumer fireworks in a municipality or plantation that hasn't adopted a consumer fireworks ordinance.

The fireworks ordinances listed on this page have been arranged into several groups to reflect the general intent of the ordinances. Please review an ordinance for specific information that may be contained within it.
