Motorists who utilize I-95 in central and northern Maine should be aware of paving projects that could cause possible traffic delays over the upcoming weeks.
On I-95 southbound in Sidney and Augusta, crews will be closing the passing lane on Tuesday, May 17 in order to remove deteriorating pavement. Crews will be grinding out over nine miles of pavement along this stretch, and it is expected take at least three days. Once the pavement is removed, crews will start paving the passing lane, possibly as early Thursday, May 19. Crews will repeat the process the following week on the travel lane. Crews will also be replacing the lighting at the Exit 112 on-ramp, and the 109A on-ramp the week of May 16.
Crews will also be working on a four-mile stretch of I-95 southbound in Plymouth, Newport and Palmyra. Starting on Monday, May 16, crews will be grinding out the old pavement, then repaving from mile 161 to mile 157. Crews will also be improving drainage along this portion of the interstate as well as making guardrail improvements. Work is expected to be completed by June 25.
On I-95 in Oakfield, crews are set begin a paving project one mile north of Exit 286. Crews will be removing old pavement and then repaving a two-mile section north of Exit 286. Crews will also be doing some excavation work along the shoulder of the road.
MaineDOT would like motorists to be aware of possible delays in these areas and to drive carefully through construction zones.
