MaineDOT to postpone Richmond Culvert Replacement

The Maine Department of Transportation has postponed the replacement of a culvert on Route 197 in Richmond until next year. MaineDOT engineers recently re-inspected the culvert, and while the culvert is in need of replacement, it is structurally sound and poses no risk to traffic if not replaced until next year.

MaineDOT had planned to replace the aging culvert the week of August 16. Postponing the replacement until next year allows MaineDOT additional time to review additional options and the additional costs associated with the options that call for maintaining traffic on Route 197. If closing the road remains as the preferred option, MaineDOT will have adequate time to work with the Town to maintain public safety services and coordinate with local businesses.
