FREEPORT, Maine -- Construction on Interstate 295 in Freeport calls for on- and off-ramp closings this week. The following schedule details the timing for the closings and alternate routes:
Monday, August 29
-Exit 20 southbound on-ramp, closed 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. ? Use either Exit 22 (Mallett Drive) in Freeport or Exit 17 (Route 1) in Yarmouth to enter Interstate 295 southbound.
-Exit 24 northbound on- and off-ramp, closed 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. ? Use Exit 22 (Mallett Drive) in Freeport to exit/enter Interstate 295 northbound.
Wednesday and Thursday, August 31 and September 1
-Exit 22 northbound on- and off-ramp, closed 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. ? Use either Exit 20 (Desert Road) or Exit 24 (Route 196) to exit/enter Interstate 295 northbound.
The highway and infrastructure improvements accompanying these ramp closings are weather dependent, and the schedule may shift to the next available evening if wet weather intervenes.

This effort is part of a substantial I-295 repair and improvement project that will be ongoing through the fall of this year. Roadway and bridge repair work has been structured to minimize the impact on motorists while improving the safety and enjoyment of traveling one of Maine?s most popular highways.
