Clinical Departments

Medical Staff

All psychiatrists at DDPC are certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology as specialists in psychiatry. They serve as the leaders of treatment teams, approving, and coordinating all treatment provided to each patient. They and a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, pharmacotherapy, non-medication therapy services, and have a major role in developing an individualized multidisciplinary treatment plan for each patient.

Nursing

The Nursing Department at Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center (DDPC) is comprised of Registered Nurses, Mental Health Workers, Acuity Specialists, and includes the Staff Education Department. Nursing at DDPC is driven to excel in patient care, treatment, and safety; increasing knowledge; inspiring hope; and challenging people to use their strengths to lead more autonomous lives. Our Staff Education Department delivers targeted and relevant continuing education for all staff; encouraging ongoing education that increases excellence in our practice, decreases barriers, promotes transformation, and reflects dedication to best practice to care for our patients.

Social Services

The goal of the Social Work staff of the Dorothea Dix Psychiatric Center is to provide quality direct and indirect social work services to all patients.  This is accomplished, in part, through professional involvement with the patient, the family/supports, and community resources, as well as through participation in multidisciplinary teams and treatment planning.  Of major importance are continued assessment of social history, provision of ongoing casework services, the provision of active treatment and the coordination of discharge planning.

Therapeutic Services

(Therapeutic Recreation, Clinical Dietitian, Chaplaincy and Occupational Therapy)

Therapeutic Services provides therapeutic activities and rehabilitative services to help each patient achieve an optimal level of physical, emotional, and psychosocial functioning to promote successful return to satisfying and productive community living.  Throughout the continuum of care, therapeutic services staff collaborate with the patient to encourage development of wellness routines, instill hope for the future and provide education to support success in meaningful life roles.
