Are you ready to write a 50,000 word novel in a month?

Join NaNoWriMo and be inspired to do just that. National Novel Writing Month happens every November! (NaNoWriMo = Na from National, No from Novel, Wri from Writing, and Mo from Month)

It's a fun, seat-of-your-pants writing event where the challenge is to complete an entire novel in just 30 days. For one month, you get to lock away your inner editor, let your imagination take over, and just create!

That means participants begin writing November 1 and must finish by midnight, November 30. The word-count goal for our adult program is 50,000 words.

In 2012, over 300,000 adults participated through our main site, and 80,000 young writers participated through the YWP.

This year the Maine State Library will provide participants in NaNoWriMo space to work during our normal business hours. We will also have a drop in writer’s workshop on the four Tuesdays of November 5, 12, 19, and 26 from 4-6:30pm. The workshops will take place in our technology room which includes scanners, a smart board, and laptops as well as wireless connectivity. The choice to sit around and write or to talk about our writing will depend on the group dynamics.
