House enacts Roberts legislation to help reduce student chronic absenteeism and dropout rates

Tiffany Roberts, D-South Berwick, that would provide proactive and strategic approaches to addressing chronic absenteeism and ensuring that students who have experienced educational disruptions have stability and support.

Governor signs Ankeles bill to improve infrastructure funding for Brunswick Landing

Gov. Janet Mills held a bill signing ceremony Wednesday for LD 276, a measure sponsored by Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, that will empower local authorities to invest in infrastructure repairs to protect natural resources from storm water runoff on the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.

Sargent appointed to regional education board

AUGUSTA - Rep. Holly T. Sargent, D-York, has been appointed to serve on the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) by Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland.

NEBHE was founded more than 65 years ago and works with New England's higher education stakeholders in public and private education to support innovation, engage conversation and drive change. NEBHE promotes greater education opportunities and services for residents of New England and its more than 270 colleges and universities.

Legislature advances Milliken bill to create civil penalties for non-consensual condom removal

AUGUSTA - The Maine Legislature advanced a bill this week from Rep. Nina Milliken, D-Blue Hill, that would create a civil cause of action in Maine law for victims of non-consensual condom removal, colloquially known as "stealthing." The House of Representatives voted 73-51 to advance the measure on Tuesday, and the Senate voted 27-6 to advance the measure on Wednesday.
