Golek participates in 2024 Emerging Legislative Leaders Program

AUGUSTA - Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, was one of 50 state legislators chosen nationwide to participate in the 2024 Emerging Legislative Leaders Program, sponsored by the State Legislative Leaders Foundation and held at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia from July 8-11.

The attendees were chosen based on their demonstrated leadership qualities, such as integrity, compassion and intelligence. The program is designed to inspire participants to continue their careers in public service while bolstering their leadership skills.

Brunswick legislators welcome Brunswick High School Girls' Basketball Team to the State House

AUGUSTA - Today, Reps. Dan Ankeles and Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick, Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, and Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, welcomed the Brunswick High School Girls' Basketball Team to the State House. The team was presented with a legislative sentiment for winning the 2024 Class A Girls' High School Basketball State Championship.

"We are all so proud of this team making history," said Ankeles. "The focus and dedication they showed makes them all role models for kids across Brunswick and throughout Maine."

Governor signs Golek bill to reduce barriers to homeownership

AUGUSTA - A bill sponsored by Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, allowing manufactured housing on single-family lots was signed into law by Gov. Janet Mills on Tuesday.

LD 337 will add an affordable homeownership pathway for low-to-middle-income Mainers grappling with the state's housing crisis. As amended, the bill will put manufactured housing on par with single-family, site-built homes by subjecting them to the same municipality-specific design and zoning criteria.

Committee advances Golek bill to better help low-income renters receive housing vouchers

AUGUSTA - The Legislature's Joint Select Committee on Housing unanimously advanced legislation on Tuesday sponsored by Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, that would establish a stakeholder group to examine systematic difficulties in obtaining and utilizing low-income affordable housing vouchers and provide further support for Section 8 housing voucher recipients.

Brunswick legislators welcome students to Maine State House

AUGUSTA - Brunswick legislators Rep. Poppy Arford, Rep. Dan Ankeles, Rep. Cheryl Golek and Sen. Mattie Daughtry welcomed students and teachers from the Brunswick High School Off Campus Learning Program to the Maine State House last Thursday, Feb.1. In addition to touring the Capitol and visiting the House Gallery, the students met with Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows.
