AUGUSTA - Today, Reps. Dan Ankeles and Poppy Arford, D-Brunswick, Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, and Sen. Mattie Daughtry, D-Brunswick, welcomed the Brunswick High School Girls' Basketball Team to the State House. The team was presented with a legislative sentiment for winning the 2024 Class A Girls' High School Basketball State Championship.
"We are all so proud of this team making history," said Ankeles. "The focus and dedication they showed makes them all role models for kids across Brunswick and throughout Maine."
"I understand how hard the team has worked for this trophy and how worthy they are of the state championship win," said Arford. "Their visit to the State House today was inspiring. Thank you to Coach Farrell and the Brunswick High School Girls' Basketball Team for sharing your excellence with the Legislature."
"Congratulations to our Girls' Basketball Team for their first championship win, a fitting triumph during Women's History Month," said Golek.
"As a graduate of Brunswick High School, I was very proud to welcome these history-making student athletes," said Sen. Daughtry. "As proud as I am today, I can only imagine how much these players would have inspired me when I was a young girl in school. This team has shown our community - and the entire state - that girls can compete and play at the same level as the boys, bringing home the top prize. Go, Dragons!"
