Legislature advances Murphy bill to increase access to electric breast pumps under MaineCare

AUGUSTA - The Maine House and Senate voted unanimously on Wednesday to advance legislation sponsored by Rep. Kelly Noonan Murphy, D-Scarborough, that would increase access to electric breast pumps for MaineCare recipients.

As amended, LD 603 would allow eligible MaineCare recipients to obtain electric breast pumps and supplies when they are prescribed or recommended by a health care provider without needing prior approval from MaineCare.

House enacts Golek bill to study establishing child care facilities in schools

AUGUSTA - The Maine House of Representatives gave final approval on Thursday to LD 1520, sponsored by Rep. Cheryl Golek, D-Harpswell, which would direct the Maine Department of Education and the Maine Department of Health and Human Services to study the feasibility of placing child care facilities in schools.

Governor signs Ankeles bill to improve infrastructure funding for Brunswick Landing

Gov. Janet Mills held a bill signing ceremony Wednesday for LD 276, a measure sponsored by Rep. Dan Ankeles, D-Brunswick, that will empower local authorities to invest in infrastructure repairs to protect natural resources from storm water runoff on the former Brunswick Naval Air Station.

Sargent appointed to regional education board

AUGUSTA - Rep. Holly T. Sargent, D-York, has been appointed to serve on the New England Board of Higher Education (NEBHE) by Speaker of the House Rachel Talbot Ross, D-Portland.

NEBHE was founded more than 65 years ago and works with New England's higher education stakeholders in public and private education to support innovation, engage conversation and drive change. NEBHE promotes greater education opportunities and services for residents of New England and its more than 270 colleges and universities.
