State of Maine Proclamation

 

WHEREAS, election administrators and poll workers, including many with experience and many stepping up for the first time, play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the ballot; and

WHEREAS, conducting an accessible and secure election requires collaboration between the Governor and the Secretary of State’s offices, municipal clerks across the state, and countless volunteers in every community; and

WHEREAS, making adjustments to election administration, educating the public, and recruiting and training additional poll workers to keep polling places open across the state requires long hours and creativity by all involved; and

WHEREAS, because of these efforts, record numbers of Maine voters are expected to participate in the 2022 midterm election, whether they vote early at their clerk’s office, send in their absentee ballot by mail, or vote in person on Election Day; and

WHEREAS, to recognize the efforts made by election clerks, election office staff, poll workers, and other community members who are giving a great deal of time and energy to our democratic process, the State of Maine urges voters, businesses, organizations, public officials, and all candidates for public office across our state to join in celebrating and thanking these individuals;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby recognize November 7th, 2022, as

Election Hero Day

throughout the State of Maine, and I urge all citizens to recognize the incredible work and sacrifice these people make to ensure that every Maine person has the opportunity to cast their ballot safely and securely in this midterm election.
