Governor Janet Mills issued the following statement regarding this morning’s fatal shooting in Biddeford:
“I have been briefed on the fatal shooting in Biddeford this morning involving Federal law enforcement. I know that situations like these are alarming and frightening. The Maine State Police are at the scene supporting and working cooperatively with the Attorney General’s Office, Maine’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner, and Federal officials to determine the facts of what occurred this morning.”
Consistent with a directive of the President, Governor Janet Mills has ordered that the United States and the State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff until 6:00 PM on Saturday, July 18, 2026, in honor of the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who passed away on Saturday at the age of 71.
“On behalf of the State of Maine, I extend our condolences to the people of South Carolina,” said Governor Mills.

Governor Janet Mills announced today that she will donate $100,000 from her contingency fund to keep the Katahdin Higher Education Center in East Millinocket open while community leaders and state partners work to determine a sustainable long-term plan for the facility.
