Dan Burgess was appointed Acting Commissioner of the Maine Department of Energy Resources in 2025. Prior to this appointment, he served as Director of the Governor's Energy Office since 2019. As Acting Commissioner, Dan advises the Governor, leads the state’s energy department and its dynamic team, represents Maine in regional and national forums, and serves on the boards of the Efficiency Maine Trust, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, and the National Association of State Energy Officials. Raised in Newport, Dan returned home to Maine to build upon eight years of leadership experience in energy policy and program development. Previously, Dan served as Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Staff at the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources and prior to that as Acting Commissioner. Dan also served as Legislative Director for Energy at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and spent time in the private sector before that. Dan now resides in Falmouth with his wife and two children and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Maine and a Master of Public Administration from Northeastern University.
