Governor Mills Signs Budget Bill Into Law

Governor Janet Mills has signed into law LD 210, the budget bill enacted by the Legislature on June 18 to fund programs and activities of State government over the next biennium. LD 210 will take effect 90 days after the adjournment of this legislative session. The Governor issued the following statement:

"Earlier this year, I proposed a balanced, fiscally responsible budget that prioritized keeping the State's key promises to Maine people. At the same time, with so much uncertainty coming from Washington, and so much uncertainty in our economy, maintaining fiscal restraint has never been more important. The budget bill enacted by the Legislature, like all lawmaking, is the product of various tradeoffs and compromises. Although I might not agree with every single provision, I appreciate the diligence and hard work of the Appropriations Committee to produce this bill, which makes important investments in Maine families, children, and seniors, our higher education institutions, housing, and more."

In March, Governor Mills signed into law a $11.3 billion baseline budget to ensure the continued operations of State government for the next biennium, as well as provide one-time funding to pay health care providers for MaineCare services and protect Maine forests from spruce budworm. The funding authorized under that budget bill -- as well as all legislation enacted during the First Regular Session of the 132nd Maine Legislature -- took effect June 20, 2025 for all FY25 expenditures, and takes effect July 1, 2025 for all FY26/27 expenditures.
