WHEREAS, for the first time in seven long years, the New England Patriots will play in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 8 against the Seattle Seahawks in a rematch of the 2015 contest; and
WHEREAS, after going just 4-13 during the 2024 season, the Patriots shocked the country this year by posting a 14-3 record under new head coach Mike Vrabel and behind a breakout season by quarterback Drake Maye; and
WHEREAS, thanks to their #3 offense and #8 defense, the Patriots piled up wins and went undefeated on the road, capturing the AFC East title, the #2 seed in the playoffs, and beating 3 of the 5 best defenses in the league on their way to the Super Bowl; and
WHEREAS, the Patriots have energized people all over Maine and New England throughout the regular season and their remarkable playoff run, giving us reason to come together, celebrate and join in the comradery of fandom during the coldest days of the year;
NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the State of Maine, do hereby proclaim Sunday, February 8, 2026 as
New England Patriots Appreciation Day
and I join the people of Maine in rooting on the Patriots as they look to take down the Seattle Seahawks and win their 7th Super Bowl.
