State of Maine Proclamation

 

WHEREAS, Robert Browne Hall was born into a musical family living in Bowdoinham, Maine on June 30, 1858; and

WHEREAS, R.B. Hall accepted a call to rebuild the Bangor Band in the early 1880s and he accomplished this task with such skill that the grateful citizens on Bangor presented him with a gold Boston Three Star Ne-Plus cornet; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his work with the Bangor Band, R.B. Hall also worked with the Waterville Military Band, Chandler’s Band, the Cherryfield Band, the Olympia Band of Augusta,and the Colby College Band; and

WHEREAS, upon his death in 1907, R.B. Hall had published more than 62 marches,and his funeral procession included the playing of his own works “March Funebre,” “Eternal Rest,” and “Independentia” by several of the bands with whom he had performed; and

WHEREAS, in accordance with 1 M.R.S.§ 119, the last Saturday in June of each year is designated as R.B. Hall Day to commemorate and honor the internationally recognized composer, conductor, and cornet soloist, whose creative talent and native ability marked him as one of Maine’s outstanding citizens;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Janet T. Mills, Governor of the great State of Maine, do hereby proclaim June 25, 2022as R. B. Hall Daythroughout the State of Maine and I urge all citizens to recognize this observance with appropriate ceremony and activity.
