Maine Cancer Registry - Data Collection Standards

Who sets the standards for the MCR?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR) provides a portion of MCR's funding and requires that all funded states strive to meet specific program standards. The MCR is also a member of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) and adheres to their standards.

How are the data standards assessed?

The MCR submits de-identifiable data to both NAACCR and NPCR for evaluation on an annual basis. In 2004, MCR was awarded NAACCR's Gold Standard Certification for its 2001 data. This is the highest National standard for data quality, completeness, and timeliness. MCR has continued to maintain its Gold Standard certification each year.
